odd behavior of FINDER

Hello-

I'm running OS 10.4.11 on a dual 2.3gHz G5.

Yesterday the finder (Control+F) would come up ok
but when I typed in search words etc the little rotating thing
would go on endlessly.

Usually results are immediate.

I rebooted to no avail.

Finally I opened ONYX
and did all the maintenance things
and RESTARTED.
VOILA! Finder working perfectly & immediately.

Any ideas about this? thanks
